Kinds of Motorcycles

  • After years of research-based developments we ended up with a large number of models on the market. These fall into two broad categories:

    • Street Bikes;
    • Off-the-Road Bikes;
      .

    There are several kinds of street bikes. By far the most common are:

    • Naked: the word “naked” refers to a kind of motorcycle with no aerodynamic protection. Sometimes they have a very small fairing. They guarantee great agility and are extremely easy to use due to their high handlebar. Examples are the Kavasaki Z750 and the Honda Hornet.
    • Cruiser and Grand Cruiser: these are born to travel, being very big and provided with  large displacement engines. Some are equipped with luxury accessories such as autoradio system and heating, while the two side panniers are an essential feature of this kind of motorcycle. Their highly developed aerodynamic protection make them ideal for travel in bad weather. They are also very comfortable.
    • Race Replica or SupersportBikes: with their extremely powerful engines, these models are replica of racing motorcycle, such as the SuperBike (similar bodywork and technology). They are fully-faired so as to reduce aerodynamic drag. Examples are the Yamaha R1, the Honda CBR 1000 and the Ducati 1198r.
      .

    Off-the-Road Bikes include:

    • Cross Bikes: they are derived from motocross racing. These are basic bikes, having no electrical system nor instrumental cluster and are expressly designed to travel on rugged terrain without difficulty. Examples are the Honda Crf 250f and the Yamaha Yz250f.
    • Enduro: similar to crossbikes, they are approved for street use. They are provided with plate and lights and are mostly used on rugged terrain – particularly on woods and glades.
    • Trial: extremely basic bikes, (i.e.they have no seat), they are designed to overcome any obstacle even at very low speed. Official trial competitions are spectacular events. An example of trial motorbike is the Sherco ST.
